Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist at NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has earned a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started in the field of radio and television reporter for Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. She was a reporter for the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. After two years, she was hired by NBC News as a Washington correspondent. Beginning in 1981 she began covering the White House. In 1988 she became the chief congressional reporter. She was appointed the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell appeared as both an anchor and a panelist on the TV news program Meet the Press. She was a member of an audience for the 1988 debates between George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell got married to Alan Greenspan the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell won the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 from the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 for her role to protect First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering for the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988, during both Ronald Reagan's presidency. The reporting she did included plenty of important stories like the Iran-Contra controversy, budget and tax reform in addition to the issue of arms control. She traveled widely along with the president Reagan to meet together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
