Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's first attempts to make it with mainstream artists were not successful. Perry was signed to two labels and was later dropped from them prior to the release of any music. However, in 2007, Capitol Records put out Perry's EP Ur So Gay which attracted only a little attention because of its playful title track. I Kissed a Girl - an ode of sexual curiosity - was dropped a couple of months later. It featured a hard electro-pop sound, and had a strong stance. The song was controversial, as critics criticized it for encouraging same-sex relationships as well as others who claimed it depicted a sexually explicit scene that appealed to male fantasies about sexuality among females. I Kissed A Girl's mix of titillation, polished melody and a catchy tune helped the song become a top 10 hit across a range of countries. This led to The album, One of the Boys (2007) being a big success. Its bouncy, sharp-tongued and bouncy second single Hot N Cold also proving popular the album much of which Perry created herself ultimately registered the sales of over three million copies within the United States.
